Clerkenwell Design Week 2016

From May 24th 2016 we had the pleasure of attending Clerkenwell Design Week to view the latest in office furniture and design.

An eclectic mix of furniture was on display from the past to present day including reception furniture, meeting pods incorporating the latest technology, task chairs, sculpted glass lighting, marmoleum flooring and polyurethane fabrics. One thing was certain though, everyone was competing to show their latest innovative designs in vibrant colours.

Below are just some of the highlights for Barkham Office Furniture Ltd at CDW 2016 (we would have loved to see everything)!

Vitra House of Colour

No exhibition would be complete for us without a long look around Vitras showroom and House of Colour exhibition.

Never failing to impress, Vitra had a whole host of furniture to display including cleverly designed meeting pods, innovative desk designs and beautiful Eames furniture.

Vitra did an incredible job to not only display their products but to showcase designers and wow visitors. Bravo Vitra.

The Bisley Water Feature

A phrase we heard time and time again from storage manufactures was “at the end of the day it’s a metal box”. Quite right, most office storage is indeed “a metal box”. However, Bisley did something quite remarkable by turning their multi-drawer storage units into a water feature, incredible! A very innovative display from Bisley, although we do hope the water doesn’t come as standard on future orders…

Tom Dixon – THE CHURCH

As fans of Tom Dixon a visit to THE CHURCH exhibition was imperative. The exhibition was situated inside a 17th century church on Clerkenwell Green, an excellent location to stage the wonderful lighting, furniture and other artefacts that were on show.

Most striking was the central lighting made up of individual spherical patterned lights that hung from the roof of St James Church. In addition, there was an excellent display of copper coloured furniture, glass blown lampshades and geo metric lights.

Meeting Pods

An old idea with new designs and inspirations, many showrooms and exhibitions were displaying personal meeting areas. Whether it be a circular enclosed glass pod with its own air conditioning and lighting system, to high back seats with meeting tables and television screens, there was plenty to be taken from this!

As open office spaces become more and more popular, the need for quiet meeting areas is still very much a necessity. This style of meeting pod (like the ones you see here – Vitra Alcove Cabin designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec) incorporates a simplistic design with highly effective auditory results.

When you’re inside these pods the acoustics are truly outstanding, it’s difficult to believe that you’re in a large open office environment with lots of noise going on around you. Also, lets not forget how stunning these look!

House of Culture

Located in Fabric Nightclub, this exhibition didn’t fail to impress. With posters on the wall reminding you to ‘rave on’ it was clear where you were, but with such a spectacle of an exhibition you forgot all of this and were soon walking around transfixed by the excellent display of designs on show.

Icons House of Culture displayed everything from fascinating lighting displays, amazing furniture and intricate displays such as the bone china Leaf hanging sculpture that welcomed you as you began the decent into the exhibition.

So after visiting over 40 showrooms and exhibitions its clear to say that each and everyone one of us at Barkham Office Furniture came away inspired. What’s more, following discussions with many manufacturers we can promise some very exciting new products in Autumn 2016.
